“We are just one element in the collective (taba) and yet each individual’s invisible experiences and memories remain somewhere, influencing us, or society, without realizing it”

Our Record of the Month Club pick for April is Taba by Satomimagae, and it’s a real gem. This one finds the Japanese artist stepping away from more traditional songwriting and leaning into something looser and more exploratory—like a patchwork of dreamy sketches and sonic vignettes. It’s intimate and spacious at the same time, built from phone recordings, late-night thoughts, and collaborations with friends. There’s still that warm acoustic core she’s known for, but here it drifts into experimental territory—bedroom folk meets abstract sound collage. It’s the kind of record that slowly pulls you in and keeps unfolding the more you sit with it.

“I was thinking about how we see people as a group and individuals within a group,” Satomi says. “How groups are connected and also how borders exist. The awareness that we are just one element in the collective (taba) and yet each individual’s invisible experiences and memories remain somewhere, influencing us, or society, without realizing it. We are small dots within a mass.” – Satomi Magae aka Satomimagae

Club Members will be getting a copy of the vinyl LP from our pals at RVNG Intl.
